Welcome to D'Youville
College and our Distance Learning site. Our goal is to offer distance
education format to academically sound courses and to use the internet
to bring our academic resources to where our students live. In
addition, we offer online assistance to students in conventionally
delivered courses.
The Department
of Academic Computing (BFAC-006)
encompasses Labs & Media and Distance Learning and is
responsible for the in-service needs of students, faculty and staff.
Labs
& Media (BFAC- 009)
operates Windows and Macintosh computer labs on campus as well as the
smart classrooms, and provides
audiovisual equipment--TV monitors with VCRs, camcorders, LCD
projectors and laptops--for classroom presentations and projects by
faculty and students.
Distance
Learning (BFAC -004) gives
D'Youville students and faculty a virtual environment for courses.
Blackboard 9 and Moodle are used as course management software to
support placement of
course materials on the web. DDL, X-CHAT, Ice-Chat, and
PROJECT
(blog) are also used in Distance Learning.
Our main Distance
Learning
application is Blackboard 9. Accounts on
Blackboard are issued to students and faculty who need access to a
Blackboard course site. Faculty may obtain an account by contacting
716-829-8147 or 716-829-8133. Student accounts are created from an
information sheet filled out by the student at registration. Student
accounts can also be obtained by visiting BFAC-004 or calling 829-8133.
Additional information on distance learning and Blackboard can be
found under INFORMATION on this page.
Students
who are taking CSC110 may apply for web space.
Please contact 716-829-8147 or 716-829-8133. Our newest addition to our
Distance Learning family is our blog server called, PROJECT. Those
students who need web site accounts may elect to have a blog site.
Students
in certain courses may be required to chat. Instructions and downloads
of our X-Chat and
ICE-Chat
software are
available for that purpose. You can also reach instructions and
downloads on our DL Blog.
Please contact 716-829-8133 for information
on X-Chat and 716-829-7990 for information on ICE-Chat.
